Don't Discriminate Against AIDS Sufferers

Prevent the deadly disease AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) which has now attacked every sub-district in Malang City, the Malang City Health Service has never tired of making efforts. Among them by holding an HIV/AIDS Discussion for stakeholders and community leaders, at Malang City Hall, Monday (5/12).

The latest data in Malang City, which only consists of five sub-districts, currently has 1.875 people with HIV/AIDS. If not handled properly, HIV/AIDS could be a very terrible time bomb for the people of Malang City.

Nusindrati, the head of the P2PL division of Malang City, said that this seminar was a series of activities to commemorate World AIDS Day which falls on December 1. Before the seminar, there were four activities that had been held first, starting from talkshow, Junior High School/Senior High School FER Refreshment and HIV/AIDS Poster Competition.

"In addition to presenting the stakeholder and community leaders, in this seminar we also brought junior high and high school students who are very vulnerable to HIV/AIDS transmission. In this way we hope that teenagers in Malang City can protect themselves as best they can so that they do not become victims," ​​explained Nunus, Nusindrati's nickname, Monday (5/12).

According to Nunus, this discussion activity was attended by 100 participants, starting from stakeholder, CSR, CSO and NGO, universities, academics and from hospitals. With the gathering of all these components, it is hoped that the handling of AIDS in Malang City can be even better.

Deputy Mayor Drs. Bambang Prio Utomo, B.Sc said that it is now appropriate for society to place the rights of AIDS sufferers in their proper place. There should be no more discrimination including in the world of work.

"Discriminating against AIDS patients is not a solution, with this seminar we hope that the understanding and awareness of the community will grow, to work together to prevent and overcome AIDS properly," explained Bambang. (cah/dmb)
