Anti-Corruption Day which falls today, Friday (09/10/2011) is commemorated with actions by various activists in this country, including in the city of Malang. In the city of Malang, activists from the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PMII) UIN Malang held an action on Jalan Veteran.
The student activists urged President and Vice President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono to immediately step down from their positions. The demonstrators urged SBY-Boediono to step down because according to them, during their leadership, corruption practices have not been resolved. Even now, there are many young, wealthy Civil Servants (PNS). This is indicated to be committing corruption.
The action that took place on Jalan Veteran, was initially peaceful. The students only distributed leaflets and gave anti-corruption speeches. In their speeches, they criticized the corruptors and revealed the various failures of the SBY-Boediono government. After that, the PMII activists immediately burned used tires.
The burning of used tires is what troubles the police. By forming a blockade and surrounding the burned used tires, no police personnel can enter the student blockade. During the burning of used tires, traffic on the local road is congested.
In the action, there were several demands carried by the students. Among them, uphold and implement nahi mungkar by eradicating corruption. "Therefore, PMII UIN Malang demands, the death penalty for corruptors, so that a decision is immediately issued that the country is in danger in eradicating corruption," explained Rohim, Head of the PMII Sunan Ampel Commissariat, UIN Malang.
In addition, he said, we are asking for strict law enforcement in handling corruption cases. "Other demands, transparency of the APBN and APBD, reject the construction of the Malang City DPRD building. That is our demand in this action. If it is not met by the government, we will continue to take action until our demands are met, and of course with a larger mass," he said.
In the same place, the action was also carried out by students of Brawijaya University (UB) Malang who are members of the Political Science Student Association (Himapolitik), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. In the action, the students demanded that SBY fulfill his promise when he became President.
According to the field coordinator (korlap) of the Action, Iwan Ismifebrianto, in Indonesia, corruption seems to have become a culture. Especially for employees in government agencies. "Regarding this, we ask the public to participate and work together in eradicating corruption. Start from our individuals," said Iwan, when met after the action. (say/dmb)
