Not only at the national level, corruption cases are still a hot issue. In the district/city level, it is no less interesting, such as what happened in Malang Raya (Malang City, Malang Regency, Batu City). Corruption cases that occurred in the Malang Raya area are still dominated by the education sector, with a total of 35 cases of alleged corruption reports, and potentially costing the state around Rp4 billion.

The magnitude of the figure was revealed in the annual corruption report activity submitted by the NGO "Malang Corruption Watch" (MCW) of Malang City together with the Malang Education Concerned Community Coalition (KMPPM), Saturday (10/11/2011).
According to the MCW Coordinator, Muhammad Didit Sholeh, the total number of complaints about corruption cases submitted by the Malang Raya community in 2011 reached 44 cases, 35 of which were education problems, and the rest were non-education problems including politics, Regionally-Owned Enterprises (BUMD), transportation and social issues.
Didit added, in the education sector, the total complaints reached 35 cases, and each case has the potential to cause state losses of up to IDR 125 million, so that the total reaches more than IDR 4 billion.
"Forms of corruption in the education sector that are often reported by the public include extortion, in the form of selling Student Worksheets (KLS), textbooks, uniforms, building fees, making trellises, building mosques, charitable donations and tuition fees," explained Didit.
This finding, he explained, is in accordance with the results of the critical analysis conducted by MCW and KMPPM, and there are 25 types of corruption in the form of extortion, starting from school registration fees, tuition fees, student council fees, extracurricular fees, exam fees and re-registration fees.
In addition, Didit admitted, there were also some in the form of travel money, book money, association money, graduation money and asking students to bring cakes and food when they move up a class, and there were mandatory fees to buy souvenirs.
In the non-education sector, I Didit, it includes 1 case of political corruption and has the potential to cause state losses of up to Rp398 million, 3 cases of social society with state losses reaching Rp11 billion, 1 case of transportation sector with the potential for state losses reaching Rp700 million.
With the disclosure of a number of corruption data in the Malang Raya area, MCW plans to report it to the Malang District Attorney's Office (Kejari), so that it can be followed up and the perpetrators of corruption in the Malang Raya area can be revealed.
"In the near future we will report to the prosecutor's office, so that the data we find can be followed up as soon as possible," concluded Didit. (say/dmb)
