For the umpteenth time, Pasar Minggu Street Vendors (PKL) on Jalan Semeru, Malang City complained about their fate to the Malang City DPRD. Today, Tuesday (27/12), no less than 34 of these PKL traders complained about their fate and existence which was threatened by not being able to trade again. This was done after the traders received a warning from Satpol PP not to trade again in that place.

The Head of the West Semeru Creative Traders Association (PPKSB), Nurhadi, explained that his members had been trading at the Tugu Tourism Market for 3 years. However, their comfort in trading began to be disturbed when they received a letter from the Malang City Culture and Tourism Office (Disbudpar). "The letter contains a prohibition for street vendors to trade on the west side of Jalan Semeru," said Nurhadi.
The ban is based on Regional Regulation (Perda) number 1 of 2000 concerning the Regulation and Guidance of Street Vendors. In the regulation, it is explained that the boundary of the implementation of the Tugu Tourism Market to the west is Jalan Taman Slamet. This means that on the west side of Jalan Taman Slamet, street vendors are not allowed to trade.
Since the warning letter from the Disbudpar was issued, PPKSB immediately reported the case to Commission B of the Malang City DPRD. In the complaint letter sent, PPKSB requested that Commission B facilitate the street vendors so that they can participate and continue trading at the Tugu Tourism Market.
However, the complaint letter was not immediately followed up. The traders did not get a solution to the case that hit them. As a result, during the waiting period, the PKL-PPKSB returned to displaying their wares during the Tugu tourist market.
On December 20, 2011, PKL PPKSB received another warning. This time the one who gave the warning was Satpol PP. In the warning, Satpol PP explained that PKL PPKSB had violated regional regulation number 1 of 2011 concerning the regulation and guidance of PKL. As a result, the PKLs were restless again so they returned to the Malang City DPRD office.
Responding to this problem, the Chairman of Commission B of the Malang City DPRD, Prof. Dr. H. Bambang Satriya, said that his party would immediately hold a coordination meeting with related SKPDs to find a solution to this problem. The SKPDs are the Disbudpar, the Transportation Agency, and the Market Agency.
Commission B will try to ensure that the 34 PKL PPKSB can enter the official Tugu Tourism Market area. From the coordination meeting that will be held, PKLs who are no longer active or who have a desire to stop trading there will be sought. If this is found, then the PKL PPKSB can replace them. In addition, efforts are also being made to maximize the existing space. "We can marry the old Tugu Tourism Market traders with new traders. So that the implementation of the Tugu Tourism Market can still take place in an orderly manner," added Bambang. (say/dmb)
