In the roll call led by Deputy Mayor Drs. Bambang Prio Utomo, B.Sc, all levels of society in Malang City were involved. Starting from officials and Muspida throughout Malang City, PKK to Karang Taruna and the general public.

Head of the Malang City Agriculture Service Ir. Ninik Suryantini revealed that this tree planting activity is a series of actions to plant 1 billion trees that have been initiated by the president. Specifically in Malang City, this program will plant 531.000 trees.

"There are plants that are productive plants, there are also protective plants. The point is by planting trees we want to make Malang City greener, fresher and healthier," explained Ninik, Friday (2/12).

Some of the plants planted today according to Ninik include durian, jabon, mango, mlinjo, petai, rambutan, sengon, sukun, srikaya. Especially for today's planting, at least 5.000 seedlings have been planted.

This activity is also an activity to commemorate Indonesian Tree Planting Day (HMPI) and National Planting Month (BMN), as well as a women's tree planting movement. This activity involves Muspida, sub-district heads, village heads and the community in Malang City.

Hartono, a resident of Tunggulwulung, admitted that he was happy with the tree planting activities like today, but he hoped that activities like today would not be merely ceremonial. Activities should not only involve planting, because if not cared for, the plants will certainly die during the dry season, so activities like this must have a follow-up.

"With the planting of many trees, it can at least offset the increasingly depleted green areas in Malang City as more and more land in Malang City is turned into housing and shophouses," said Hartono. (cah/dmb)
