To be able to export goods to South America and Africa is actually very easy, no need for expensive goods. Goods that are already cheap in Malang City can be sold at high prices in South America and Africa. So said exporter from East Java Srie Hartatie in the Seminar "Potential and Opportunities for Cooperation between Indonesia and South American Countries and the Caribbean Region" at the Aria Hotel, Malang City, Tuesday (10/12).

In the seminar which is a collaboration between the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) and Brawijaya University (UB), Tatty, Sri Hartati's nickname, said that for exports to South America and Africa, they took a lot of goods from Malang City. Among them are butterfly crafts, mortars, udêng, carved shoes, chips, and others which are available in large quantities and of high quality in Malang City.
"Export standards to South American and African countries are not as high as when exporting to Europe and Japan. Because products from Malang City are very worthy of being sold in South America and Africa," explained Tatty, Tuesday (10/12).
FISIP UB lecturer, Asih Purwati revealed, so far Indonesia has not paid much attention to countries such as South America and the Caribbean. Even though these countries have the potential for cooperation and large budgets. Among them in the military, economic and educational fields.
"So far, there are still few universities interested in conducting research in countries such as South America and the Caribbean," explained Asih.
Musthofa Taufik Abdul Latif, Director of South America and the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that Indonesia's export opportunities to South America and the Caribbean are very large. The potential for trade with these countries is worth 500 billion dollars. So far, Indonesia has only been able to export 2,4 billion, so there are still many opportunities to export to the South American and Caribbean regions. (cah/dmb)
