In the development planning meeting (Musrenbang), the 2013-2018 Malang City Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) held at the Harris Hotel, Thursday (19/12), Prof. Ahmad Erani Yustika, Ph.D from Brawijaya University (UB) highlighted public services in Malang City so far.

In the RPJMD Musrenbang themed 'Building Togetherness to Realize Malang City as a Dignified City', Erani was trusted to deliver material on regional development synergy to improve the quality of public services and the competitiveness of Malang City.
According to Erani, development is closely related to economic growth, which has often drawn criticism, because the benchmark for the success of the development cannot be ascertained to what extent. "We will be lost if we place the economic aspect biased with other fields," he said.
"Economic development will be paralyzed if not supported by other supporting factors. For example, education, health and the suitability of housing for the community must receive special attention from the government. These three things are very important, to be a balance of life for the community," explained Erani.
In addition, he said, the investment ratio and labor absorption are not balanced, so it is necessary to develop entrepreneurship, utilization of technology and innovation in various fields, especially information technology. "These are some of the things that must be a concern for Malang City, especially in this RPJMD Musrenbang," said Erani.
Meanwhile, for public services, the economic observer explained, Malang City as a modern city that has many educational facilities, it turns out that public services in the field of education have not been implemented optimally. The performance of the Malang City Government in improving public health access has also not been good. "Social aspects, related to poverty, beggars and vagrants are still the main problems of Malang City," he said.
"Public transportation and provision of road infrastructure to overcome city congestion have not been implemented optimally. All of this will be a correction for the Malang City Government, so that later a dignified Malang City can be created, in accordance with the vision and mission of the Mayor of Malang, H. Moch. Anton. The end point is the synergy of public services with development," concluded Erani. (say/dmb)
