That was what was conveyed by the Commissioner of the Malang City KPU, Zainuddin at the socialization event held at the Baiduri Sepah Cafe & Resto Hall, Jalan Raya Tlogomas Malang, Thursday night (26/12). According to him, in this activity, the Malang City KPU deliberately collaborated with media circles, both print and electronic.

"We hope that in the future the media can become part of stakeholder who will help make the election a success effectively, efficiently and on target. Tonight we also introduce 25 people from the democracy volunteer team that we formed, to help the Malang City KPU with their duties. They work for us as volunteers, and do not get paid,” explained Zainuddin.

He added that the Malang City KPU wants the volunteers to not be too unfamiliar with the media, so that when they work to map out socialization activities according to their segmentation, they can communicate with the media. "The hope is that in all lines, this socialization is right on target and will enter the lines according to their segments," explained Zainudin.

The task of these volunteers, he said, is to map out socialization activities according to their segments, such as for new voters, religion, disabilities, women, and marginalized community groups. "Each group has 5 volunteers. They will map out issues related to effective election socialization, for each segment," he added.

Thus, Zainuddin continued, the election socialization activities can be right on target and reach every segment. Secondly, the task of the volunteers is to assist the activities of the Malang City KPU, both those who go to the field and document the activities. "In addition, they will also synergize with the media, if the KPU is less able/weak in covering information related to public political education and socialization," he said.

"The volunteers consist of students, housewives, community activists, community organization groups, and so on. Previously, there were 50 people who registered to become members of this democracy volunteer. From that number we selected, and according to the rules there must be 25 people. The other 25 people will be reserve personnel, and this volunteer team so that they can be as much as possible the mouthpiece of the KPU," continued Zainudin.

With this volunteer team, he explained, it can also reduce the number of abstentions in the upcoming election. So far, the Malang City KPU has relied on cooperation with related parties to reduce the number of abstentions. The suppression of the number of abstentions must be based on the database, so that there is no data neglect.

"While one of the requirements that must be met by these democracy volunteers is to know and understand the area where they will work later, have basic and competency according to the segment. Thus, each volunteer can work optimally, because they already have basic abilities," concluded Zainudin. (say/dmb)
