The future requires a generation that has the ability to face challenges and changes that occur in an increasingly global era. Therefore, the implementation of education in Indonesia today must prepare students with creative thinking skills and attitudes that will greatly determine their success in the future.
For this reason, educational institutions are required to prepare their students mentally so that they are able to motivate and arouse their students' creativity by using various teaching methods that can improve reasoning power, with the hope that students can find brilliant and critical ideas in solving problems and have superior abilities.
That was what was conveyed by the Mayor of Malang, H. Moch. Anton in the opening ceremony of the National Student Sports Olympiad (O2SN) and the National Student Arts Festival (FLS2N) of Malang City in 2015 at the Ken Arok Sports Hall, Wednesday (20/5).
Early education provision and development of creative potential, he said, which is basically present in every child, is a necessity and occupies a strategic portion to always be developed as manifested in this activity.
"Therefore, through the Malang City Education Office, I really hope to continue to promote activities that can not only channel interests and talents and spur students' creativity in the arts, but also improve the physical and spiritual health of students and are very important for shaping children's characters as well as guiding them to become people with noble character, noble morals, creative, innovative and positive mindsets," said the man who is often called Abah Anton.
On the other hand, he explained, through O2SN and FLS2N it is also expected to be used as a means of recruiting students who excel in sports and arts. Where the results of this activity, later on, are not only expected to be able to compete at the East Java and national levels, but more than that, the participants will get other benefits, namely they can express themselves, get to know each other, and share experiences with other participants.
Hopefully, through this activity, continued the PKB politician, children will be increasingly motivated in developing their talents and potential, so that they will continue to grow and develop into children who can make their parents, family, teachers and society proud.
“Maintain and uphold sportsmanship and togetherness, show your best achievements for the sake of your beloved school and Bumi Arema. With hard work, diligent practice and high spirits, we are optimistic that Malang City will be the best in this event. Fight as hard as you can, and show your abilities,” added Abah Anton.
Separately, the Head of the Malang City Education Office, Dra. Zubaidah, MM said that the implementation of these competitions began on May 18 and will end on May 23, 2015. "The venue for the O2SN competition is at the Malang State University (UM) field and at the SMAN 8 field. For FLS2N at the SMPN 5 Malang City field," she explained.
"The O2SN competition includes athletics, volleyball, table tennis, swimming, karate, pencak silat, chess, and badminton. For FLS2N, it includes group vocal competition, dance, reading the Quran, reading short stories, batik design, and poster design. The O2SN participants for junior high school are 345 students, and MTS are 380 students. The FLS2N participants for high school are 586 students and MA are 285 students, and the total number of participants is 1.596 students," concluded the woman in the hijab. (say/hms/yon)
