To provide education on the importance of legality in a marriage, the Malang City Government through the Public Welfare (Kesra) Division held a mass wedding at the Sahid Montana Hotel, Malang City, Thursday (28/5).

Of the 171 prospective bride and groom couples, only 36 couples passed the verification and were able to attend the mass wedding. However, one couple died a few days before the mass wedding, so only 35 prospective brides and grooms attended the event.
This was conveyed by the Deputy Mayor of Malang, Drs. Sutiaji when met on the sidelines of the event. "We are still scheduling when this second mass wedding will be," he said.
"For 2016, mass weddings will be handed over to each sub-district. Various needs related to its implementation, such as requirements for prospective brides and grooms, will be taken care of through the sub-district," added Sutiaji.
As good citizens, the bespectacled man explained, we must obey the existing rules, and one of them is about the legal ownership of this marriage. "Many of the mass wedding participants are old, but they are willing to join the mass wedding. This is extraordinary," he explained.
By participating in the mass wedding, Sutiadji continued, at least these parents have pride and can show their children and grandchildren that they can legally marry according to religion and the government. "Especially for those who do not have the money to get married, this mass wedding is very helpful," concluded Sutiadji. (say/yon)
