Until yesterday, Monday (8/6), the Malang City swimming contingent has collected one gold and five bronze. From the achievement, Sonya also contributed one bronze medal in the women's 200-meter backstroke.

Meanwhile, four bronze medals were presented by Teddy Satrio in the men's 400-meter freestyle, the men's 4×100-meter relay team, the men's 4×100-meter medley team, and the women's 4×100-meter medley team.

The gold medal contributor, Sonya, said she was happy because she was able to contribute two medals. "Winning and losing in a competition is common. The opponents I faced were very tough, and I am grateful to be able to get a gold medal," she said.

On the other hand, Malang City swimming coach, Yossy Kurnia admitted to being grateful for having achieved the target. "Our target was only one gold, and that at least has been met. Sonya should have been able to add one more gold in the women's 200-meter backstroke but missed, because her strategy had been read by her opponent," he explained.

"But it doesn't matter, we have fought to the max. Whatever we achieve must be accepted well. The coaches and athletes have fought tooth and nail so far," concluded Yossy. (say/yon)
