East Java Governor, Drs. H. Soekarwo, SH, M.Hum said that Abdulrachman Saleh Airport serves people in 11 districts/cities. "There are around 45 million residents outside East Java who enter and use the airport's services, and around 460 thousand foreign tourists," he said, Thursday (25/6).

The man who is familiarly called Pakde Karwo added that passenger growth at this airport is between 5-6 percent every year. Pakde Karwo also conducted an inspection of various facilities in the departure terminal room. According to him, everything is good and guaranteed that prospective passengers will feel comfortable.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Minister of Transportation, Ignasius Jonan said, to become an international airport as soon as possible. "The most important thing is that there is an agreement on utilization from the Indonesian Air Force with the East Java Provincial Government. In that agreement, of course, it also includes elements of state security," he explained.

"In the next five years, the government will improve all airports and have at least a 2.500-meter runway. Other facilities, from the security side such as airport fences will also be the government's concern," added Ignasius. (say/yon)
