The Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Agency (Diskop & UKM) of Malang City held a Seminar on Cooperative Identity entitled 'Strengthening Cooperatives as the Pillar of the Indonesian Economy' in order to commemorate the 68th Cooperative Day. In the seminar held at the Gajahmada Graha Hotel Malang, various awards were also presented, Tuesday (28/7).

The awards presented included the Republic of Indonesia Employees Cooperative of Brawijaya University (KPRI-UB) which achieved Rank II in the Service Cooperative Group category, KPRI RSSA which achieved Rank I in the Service Cooperative Group category, and the Karya Abadi Multipurpose Cooperative (KSU) which achieved Rank I in the East Java Province Savings and Loan Cooperative Group category.
On this occasion, the management of the Regional Indonesian Cooperative Council (Dekopinda) of Malang City for the 2015-2020 period was also inaugurated. Inaugurated once again as the Chairperson of Dekopinda Malang City is Herman Suryo Kumoro SH, MS.
Herman said that there is a lot of homework to be done in his second term as Chairman of Dekopinda. Some of the homework is more or less the same as the problems of cooperatives in Indonesia in general, where there are still many cooperatives that are not healthy. "In Indonesia, of the approximately 230.000 cooperatives that exist, 65.000 of them are categorized as unhealthy. And that also happens in Malang City," explained Herman, Tuesday (28/7).
In Malang City itself, there are currently 767 cooperatives. Of that number, 407 cooperatives are still active, and 360 cooperatives are no longer active. These inactive cooperatives are currently being fostered so that they can become good cooperatives.
To carry out the coaching, various strategic steps have been prepared. Among them are the program to improve the quality of cooperative institutions, the program to develop a support system for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM), the program to develop entrepreneurship and the competitive advantages of UMKM.
