BNPT Socializes SOP for Use of Hazardous Substances

The widespread use of Chemical, Biological, Radioactive and Nuclear (KBRN) substances by terrorists has prompted the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) to hold a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) socialization in Malang City, Thursday (13/8).

Director of BNPT Capacity Development, Brigadier General. Pol. Rudy Sufahriadi appealed to the public to report if there is a threat of terrorism, Thursday (13/8)

The socialization event held at the Savana Malang Hotel was attended by the ranks of the TNI, Polri, BPBD (Regional Disaster Management Agency_ed), Health Service, Fire Department, and other related parties in Malang Raya (Malang City, Malang Regency, Batu City). This event was opened by the Director of BNPT Capacity Development, Brigadier General. Pol. Rudy Sufahriadi.

According to Brigadier General Rudy, Malang City was chosen as the place for this socialization because Malang is a big city that is prone to threats or acts of terrorism. In addition, many of the perpetrators of terrorism incidents so far have come from Malang.

"With this socialization, it is hoped that it will minimize the misuse of these very dangerous substances. There is already an SOP for its use, and the SOP is included in the state gazette. So all citizens must obey the rules," added Rudy, Thursday (13/8).

The participants of the socialization, he continued, will later learn what the hazardous materials are, the consequences of their misuse, and the SOP for their use. "However, with the SOP, it would be better if we use it for prevention," the sturdy man appealed.

If there is a terrorist attack or threat that is suspected of using those dangerous materials, Rudy continued, we already know and have the SOP. "In the end, we are able to overcome that threat. And I am sure our TNI-Polri are able to overcome any disturbance," he continued.

"As has happened so far, the threat of terrorism in Indonesia has always been well managed. Our TNI-Polri have sophisticated equipment and are always on standby. However, if the public suspects a threat of terrorism, they must immediately report it to the Police/TNI officers," concluded Rudy. (say/yon)
