Pension Guarantee Still the Prima Donna

Since July 1, 2015, BPJS (Employment Security Agency) has officially been operating to replace Jamsostek (Employment Social Security_ed). All workers, both formal and non-formal, and employers must be members. If not, they will be subject to sanctions according to applicable regulations. The sanctions are in the form of warnings, administrative sanctions, and/or fines.

Until now, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan members in Malang Raya have reached 300 thousand people. Of that number, those registered as active participants are around 117 thousand people. Not only Indonesians, foreign citizens who have worked in Indonesia for at least six months must also be members.

"By becoming a member of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, workers will receive certainty of guarantees in the event of social risks such as accidents and retirement. For companies, companies will be able to concentrate on the business they run," added the woman who is familiarly called Beti, Tuesday (8/9).

For informal workers, he continued, such as pedicab drivers, street vendors, vegetable sellers and fishermen, are also required to be members of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. Those who work certainly have risks, therefore there must be a guarantor. "When they die, the heirs will receive compensation and can continue," continued Beti.

Of the several services, such as Work Accident Insurance, Old Age Insurance, and Death Insurance, Pension Insurance is still the favorite. "Currently, there are 400 companies with 35 thousand employees as members. The data is based on July 2015, and will continue to grow," he explained. (say/yon)
