Crafts Made from Used Newspapers Are Popular Abroad

Used newspapers that have been considered less useful can actually have a high selling value with the touch of creative hands. As can be seen in the training held by the Malang City Industry and Trade Service (Disperindag) at the Trio Indah 2 Hotel Malang, Wednesday (9/9).

Dozens of Small and Medium Industries (IKM) are trained to make handicrafts using recycled materials in the form of used newspapers. With scissors, glue, dyes and wood glue, used newspapers can be transformed into tissue holders, flower vases and other creations.

Head of the Textile and Miscellaneous Industry Development and Development Section of the Malang City Trade and Industry Office, Nugroho Nanang Jauhari said that the participants of this training will be empowered. "IKM actors who can produce products above average will be included in various event exhibitions, both on a local and national scale," he explained, Wednesday (9/9).

Meanwhile, Nanik Sri Wahyuningtyas, as the training instructor, said that although many of the training participants were new, the results were very satisfying. "In addition to the domestic market, overseas, such as China and Thailand, have high interest," she explained.

"In one item, Thailand ordered a thousand pieces. The market potential is very large. Therefore, empowering SMEs is very necessary. From the products of these SMEs who want to sell to us, we will accommodate and buy them," added Nanik.

Separately, one of the training participants, Putri Anggraini, admitted that she was happy to be able to participate in this training. By participating in this training, she admitted that she gained a lot of experience, knowledge and how to utilize recycled goods to become economically valuable.
