Residents of RW 23 Purwantoro Village, Blimbing District, Malang City received injection well assistance from the Faculty of Engineering, Brawijaya University (UB) Malang. This injection well is expected to be a solution to deal with the flooding problem that always hits the area, Tuesday (27/10).

The handover of the aid was witnessed directly by the BPP (Research and Community Service Agency) together with the Head of the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of Malang City Drs. Wasto, SH, MH and representatives of the Irrigation Student Association (HMP) of the Faculty of Engineering UB.
They were welcomed by the Head of RW 23 Ir. Bambang Irianto and his deputy Indra Setiawan and all residents. Bambang expressed his gratitude for the assistance from FT UB. "This program is certainly very beneficial for us because our village is always flooded every year from the Tulusrejo River," said Bambang, Tuesday (27/10).
The flood was caused by the river surface being higher than the settlements of the residents in this village. During the rainy season, floods usually inundate the entire area up to 20 centimeters which of course disrupts the comfort of residents and has the potential to bring disease.
Meanwhile, Drs. Wasto said that this injection well further complements the Glintung program. Go Green which has been promoted so far. "We hope that the stability of this environmentally friendly spirit will be fostered and then transmitted to other RWs. Let's make this program popular and make it part of Malang's icon," said Wasto.
Separately, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UB, Dr. Ir. Pitojo Tri Juwono, MT said that the provision of this assistance is one of the applications of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education as a form of community service. A total of five injection wells were handed over and are expected to introduce the Water Saving Movement (GEMAR) to the community.
"Representing FT-UB as a higher education institution, we are proud to be trusted by the community to be a solution to environmental problems. Because this is why FT-UB exists, to innovate to answer the problems that occur and at the same time together build a community paradigm towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyle," said Pitojo.
