Lowokwaru, MC – The increasing prevalence of radicalism and acts of terrorism is one of the reasons for holding this event. International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) IV 2015 at the Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University of Malang, Monday (23/11).

The event, which was opened by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Drs. H. Abdurrahman Mohammad Fachir, was attended by 65 religious figures and influential clerics from 34 countries. It was also attended by 500 clerics from all over Indonesia, academics, and ambassadors of friendly countries.
ICIS Secretary General, KH Hasyim Muzadi said, one of the topics discussed in this conference is how to strengthen Indonesia as an Islamic world and as a bridge with the western world. "In addition, it is also to find solutions to various problems and conflicts that are currently occurring, related to radicalism," he explained.
In relation to this, Hasyim explained, moderate thinking will be eroded by radical and liberal thinking if there is no systematic effort. "Those thoughts must be managed well to produce the best solution too," he added.
Furthermore, Hasyim said that terrorism and radicalism must be dismantled together so that terrorism stops. "Thus, anti-terrorism also does not stimulate the emergence of new terrorism," he explained.
"In this context, higher education institutions have a big role to play in contributing ideas and solutions to solve various problems. Especially Islamic-based campuses that must also be able to produce quality Muslim scholars," concluded Hasyim. (say/yon)
