Klojen, MC – Welcoming International Volunteer Day and Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Volunteer Day which both fall in December, PMI Malang City held various activities. This time PMI carried out social activities by distributing 200 basic food packages to pedicab drivers in various corners of Malang City, Tuesday (15/12).
Secretary of PMI Malang City, Kris Surya Hadi said that this activity was held in the framework of International Volunteer Day which was first established in 1971 and commemorated every December 5 and to welcome PMI Volunteer Day on December 26 which was initiated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia a year after the Aceh tsunami disaster.
"We hope that this activity can further foster a sense of solidarity and willingness to fight to help others," explained Kris, Tuesday (16/12).
In addition to distributing it to pedicab drivers, Kris said that basic food packages were also given to homeless people whose data was taken from the Malang City Social Service.
PMI Malang City has various agendas besides social activities sharing with the underprivileged. Among the agendas is to host the East Java Volunteer Day ceremony which will be held at Malang City Hall today, Wednesday (16/12). The ceremony which will be attended by around 750 participants will be led directly by the Head of PMI East Java, Imam Utomo.
It is scheduled that in this ceremony various awards will be distributed, including awards for exemplary volunteers at the East Java level, blood donors who have donated blood more than 50 times, and demonstrations of disaster management to accident handling. (cah/yon)
