Minister of Environment Hands Over Land Grant to UB

In the celebration of UB's 53rd Dies Natalis, the Minister of LHK of the Republic of Indonesia Dr. Ir. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, M.Sc officially handed over a land grant to UB which was symbolically received by UB Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Bisri, MS, Tuesday (5/1).

In her scientific oration at the Samantha Krida Building, UB, Minister Siti Nurbaya invited all academics to work together to maintain and improve environmental quality, including by preserving forests.

Minister Siti revealed that the grant of 514 hectares of land in the Karangploso area, Malang Regency, was given so that UB could manage it as an educational forest with the hope that it would bring many benefits to UB, the surrounding community and also the Indonesian nation.

"The Ministry of Environment and Forestry granted this land to UB to be used as an educational forest and to complete UB's status as an educational forest." green campus," explained Minister Siti, Tuesday (5/1).

Meanwhile, UB Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Bisri, MS expressed his happiness with the land grant from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia. He added that the land grant will be used as an educational forest as well as a learning laboratory.

"We will immediately follow up by cooperating with Perhutani to regulate how the management will be carried out," said Bisri.

By receiving the right to manage forest areas with special purposes in four villages in Karangploso District, Bisri emphasized that UB must learn more first. Especially how to manage forests so that they can bring greater benefits.

The forest area in Karangploso itself consists of protected forests and production forests. For protected forests will be left as before, while production forests will be managed according to academic corridors. (cah/yon)
