Klojen, MC – Batik is an original Indonesian culture that is much in demand by foreigners such as the United States. Yesterday, Tuesday (12/1) as many as 16 students from Uncle Sam's country learned batik ikat and batik tulis at SMP Kristen 1 YPK Malang.

Every year, foreign students always come to the school located on Jl. Kelud with various missions. This time they taught batik to the students. Before practicing, they were given theory first. These foreigners listened carefully to the explanations from the students.
After that, they were taught how to make ikat batik, which is by tying a sheet of cloth with a rubber band filled with a marble. In another place, some students prepared hot water that had been given salt and fabric dye. Then the bundles of cloth were dipped, stirred, and left for 30 minutes.
The cloth ties are then lifted, untied, washed and dried. The results of the ikat batik are very amazing. Next, the foreigners learn to make hand-drawn batik which begins with making a batik sketch. The sketch is then drawn using a canting. Once finished, the batik is dried.
One of the students, Jessica Reme, admitted that she was happy with this batik learning. According to her, batik making is very fun, even though the results of her work are not that good. "Making batik is very exciting and fun," said the beautiful woman enthusiastically, Tuesday (12/1).
Meanwhile, one of the students of SMPK 1 YPK, Fransiska Sandra said that she was also happy to be able to teach foreigners to make batik. Although there was a little difficulty in communicating because of the language difference, this petite woman always seemed to smile when teaching the foreigners.
“The foreigners I taught asked various things about batik. I am not very fluent in English, so it was a bit difficult to explain it. But basically I am happy to be able to teach them. They are kind, polite and friendly,” explained Fransiska.
Separately, the Head of SMPK 1 YPK Malang, Grace Imelda said that this event is also to train children's courage in speaking English. "In addition, children's mentality will be formed. They can also introduce Indonesian culture, namely batik," she concluded. (say/yon)
