Kedungkandang, MC – Malang Mayor H. Moch. Anton conducted a surprise inspection to disaster-prone areas in Malang City, Tuesday (2/2). The man who is familiarly called Abah Anton immediately moved quickly, considering that recently Malang City has often been hit by heavy rain accompanied by strong winds that have the potential to cause disasters.

The two disaster-prone areas visited by Abah Anton were on Jl. Ki Ageng Gribig Gg. 1 RT 5 RW 6, Madyopuro Village, Kedungkandang District and Jl. Abimanyu, Polehan Village, Blimbing District. In the two locations, the number one person in the Malang City Government ordered the village heads to identify the cost needs required in their areas.
Abah Anton said he did not want to hear that if a disaster occurred in Malang City, the relevant parties and their staff would argue that there were no funds. "I deliberately asked the village heads to make proposals for repairing disaster-prone areas, because the funds are there," he explained.
"Through Musrenbang (Development Planning Meeting_ed) proposals are given, so that development can be carried out immediately to minimize the occurrence of disasters such as landslides," explained Abah Anton, Tuesday (2/2).
According to Abah Anton, the Malang City Government itself has taken various anticipatory measures to deal with disasters, such as the current rainy season which is prone to flooding and landslides.
"I ask the public to also care more about protecting the environment, including in throwing garbage, do not throw it into the river. Because if the river is full of garbage, flooding can clearly threaten," he explained.
Heavy rain in the last few days in Malang City is recognized by Abah Anton as very likely to trigger floods and landslides. That is why his party has instructed all ranks to work together to be more sensitive to disaster response.
Moreover, in Malang City itself, it currently has a Disaster Response Regulation that covers 44 disaster-prone areas in Malang City, consisting of 27 landslide-prone areas and 17 flood-prone areas. (cah/yon)
