Sudden Urine Test Conducted at Malang City DPRD Office

Klojen, MC – Not only do they want members of the Malang City Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) to be free from corruption, but these people's representatives must also be free from drug abuse (narcotics and dangerous drugs/materials_ed). In relation to this, on Thursday (11/2) a urine test was conducted on 45 council members on the second floor of the local office.

Of the 45 council members, only 41 people were able to take the urine test yesterday. Four people who could not take the test were on leave from the city and out of the island for family reasons with the permission of the Chairman of the Malang City DPRD. This urine test was an initiative of the Chairman of the DPRD, Arief Wicaksono and was carried out suddenly.

"Today we happen to have a plenary session, so we also held a urine test because the council members must attend the plenary session. We want these people's representatives to be an example for the community who are also their constituents. They cannot just campaign about the prohibition of drug use, but must prove it first," explained the PDI Perjuangan politician, Thursday (11/2).

According to him, do not invite the public to stay away from drugs if we as people's representatives are not yet free or proven not to use, or even distribute, these illicit goods. "We want members of the Malang City DPRD to be free from corruption and drugs," added Arief.

In the future, he said, his party plans to hold urine tests periodically and immediately hold urine tests if the situation requires it. For the four council members who have not taken urine tests today, they will still undergo urine tests at the Malang City BNN (National Narcotics Agency) Office if they have returned to work.

From the results of yesterday's urine test, 41 people were declared negative or showed no indication of using drugs. When asked if later there are members of the council who test positive for using drugs, Arif said that it will be referred to the legislative body and must undergo a legal process according to existing regulations. "If the mistake is indeed big, for example users and dealers, then the person concerned can be prosecuted," he said.

Separately, the Head of Commission A, Sulik Lestiyowati praised what the chairman of the council did by holding a sudden urine test. "We as members of the DPRD or people's representatives must be and give a good example to them (the people). If we don't give an example, then who else," explained the Democrat Party politician.
