Klojen, MC – Beware! That was the message conveyed by the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Malang City, Drs. J. Hartono to the residents of Malang City after observing the landslide and the collapse of the river embankment.

"In the two months running during the rainy season, seven embankments have collapsed due to overflowing river water because the discharge increased due to heavy rain," said J. Hartono, Saturday (27/2) to the media crew. The latest incident, the embankment collapsed on Jl. Terusan Putra Yudha 5, RW 13, Tanjungrejo Village, Sukun District at 06.00 WIB.
Currently, Hartono explained, landslides are still occurring due to the damaged retaining foundation. The length of the landslide is 50 meters, the height is eight meters, and will have an impact on the next embankment. There are five houses that are potentially (vulnerable).
He added that there were no fatalities and that actions had been taken to provide danger marker lines and continued coordination with sub-district heads, village heads, Village Development Officers (Babinsa), RT and RW. "We will continue to appeal to residents to always be vigilant," he continued.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Malang, H. Moch. Anton instructed the regional ranks to conduct early detection of vulnerable points in their respective regions. "The rainy season is prone to disasters, therefore all parties must be vigilant," he said. (say/yon)
