Klojen, MC – The lack of public concern for paying attention to work safety is a problem for Indonesian society. This is homework for employers and workers themselves to be able to pay more attention to their work safety.

This was stated by the Chairman of the Indonesian National Construction Implementation Association (Gapensi) of Malang City, Eddy Wahyono, Tuesday (15/3) in the Seminar on Improving Occupational Health and Safety (K3) Culture in Regional Infrastructure Development held at the Grand Palace Hotel, Tuesday (15/3).
As a speaker, Eddy highlighted the importance of using standard safety equipment while on duty. In the construction sector, so far many workers have not been found wearing helmets, safety ropes, or shoes as one of the safety standards while on duty.
"This situation certainly raises high risks that can threaten lives. And it takes time to make people aware of the importance of using work safety protection," Eddy explained, Tuesday (15/3).
He added that the recklessness of Indonesian workers who do not use personal protective equipment while working does not only occur in Indonesia, when working abroad, many Indonesian workers often act recklessly and do not use safety equipment while working.
In line with Eddy, Head of BPJS (Social Security Administering Agency_ed) Employment Malang Branch Sri Subekti, SE admitted that the awareness of Indonesian people towards self-protection is still low. That is why BPJS Employment continues to conduct various socializations to provide education to the public about the importance of self-protection.
"Actually, the cost of managing BPJS Employment is very cheap, it just depends on whether you are willing or not," said Beti, Sri Subekti's nickname.
He gave an example, for a project worth Rp 100 million, the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan payment value that must be paid is only Rp 240.000. "This is very light, because protection is given to all workers involved in the project work. Moreover, for a project value of more than Rp 500 million, the payment percentage also decreases. If Rp 100 million, the percentage is 0,24 percent of the project value, Rp 500 million to 1 billion is only 0,19 percent." he explained. (cah/yon)
