Starfruit, MC – In the opening Indonesia Creative Cities Conference (ICCC) 2016 which was held at the Harris Hotel, Malang City, Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil shared stories with invited guests, Thursday (31/3).
He said that Bandung was declared by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as one of the world's creative city networks (UNESCO Creative Cities Network-UCCN_ed). This is a real example for Malang City to immediately enter UCCN.
Ridwan Kamil said it was not easy to be included in the UNESCO creative city network. It required a long process until finally Bandung was declared a creative city by UNESCO.
"There must be good communication with all communities and elements of society. Everything is accommodated so that it can run side by side," said Emil, Ridwan Kamil's nickname, Thursday (31/3).
He added that the city of Bandung has a population of 2,5 million people with a diversity of its population. Of the 2,5 million people, 60 percent are young people under 40 years old. If managed well, this will be a strong capital to be able to display various works in various fields.
The key to success in creating creations, Emil admitted, is by providing a lot of space for people to actualize themselves. People cannot be forced to be creative, but they also cannot be too relaxed.
For creative people, if forced, it will definitely give rise to resistance. Likewise, if it is too free, creativity is also difficult to emerge. "Our key in Bandung is how to keep young people busy and creative, so that they don't have time to do negative things," said Emil.
Bekraf, Emil continued, has formulated 16 sub-sectors of the creative industry, but it is impossible for a city to achieve success in all 16 sub-sectors. "Bandung was also confused about which one to focus on. But after the process, Bandung finally focused on the design sector," said Emil. (cah/yon)
