Klojen, MC – The 'Desaku Menanti' program is one of the efforts of the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs to eradicate poverty in Indonesia. In Malang City, the realization of the 'Desaku Menanti' program was carried out in March 2016 in the form of building 40 houses for former vagrants and beggars (gepeng).

The construction of permanent housing for PMKS (People with Social Welfare Problems) in the Tlogowaru Village area, Kedungkandang District is targeted for completion in June. This was conveyed by the Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs Khofifah Indar Parawansa on the sidelines of attending the Easter celebration at the Immanuel Church on Jl. Mundu 24 Malang City, Sunday night (17/4).
According to Minister Khofifah, the former beggars will not only receive houses, but also several other facilities such as living expenses and various trainings. "Later, it is hoped that the former beggars will not return to the streets again, because they already have their own income," explained the Chairperson of PP Muslimat NU
Furthermore, Minister Khofifah explained that there was a third party who was ready to provide vocational training, and the Ministry of Social Affairs has coordinated with the Malang City Social Service.
Regarding road access to the 'Desaku Menanti' village, which according to some residents is still not good, the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs will coordinate with the Malang City Government.
"If everything goes smoothly and according to the program, then in June, the 'Desaku Menanti' village will be inaugurated. If later there are still some shortcomings, the Malang City Social Service and the Malang City Government will immediately resolve them," concluded the woman in the hijab. (say/yon)
