Jakarta, MC – Innovative leaders or regional heads play an important role in the implementation of regional autonomy today. Without innovative regional heads, regional autonomy will not achieve its goals in building regional communities towards Indonesian development.

That was what was emphasized by the Deputy for State Administration who is also the Acting Deputy for Policy Studies, Dr. Tri Widodo W. Utomo, in a national seminar entitled 'Strengthening Regional Autonomy: Building Indonesia from the Regions' held by the State Administration Institute, Tuesday (19/4) in Jakarta.
On the occasion attended by regional heads and deputy regional heads throughout Indonesia, Tri Widodo explained that the movement of regional autonomy is divergent in nature. This means that there are several regions that have 'on the right track' in implementing autonomy, but there are also regions that still 'offside' or get off the right track.
“The area that on the right track raises optimism, but for areas that off side "This is our shared homework," said Tri Widodo.
Several regions that have implemented regional autonomy according to its tracks include Malang City, Surabaya, Bandung City, Bantaeng, Pontianak, Denpasar and several other regions. This cannot be separated from the role of regional heads who truly serve the people and also have very good innovation. "This innovative regional leader is the main key for regions to be able to run in track "That's right," said Tri.
As for some characteristics of innovative leaders, according to Tri Widodo, they can be seen from several things, first, leaders must have a strong vision and have a picture in regional development. Furthermore, innovative leaders must be confident and have a strong character, besides that leaders must be enthusiastic and open and able to utilize technological developments.
He added that the example shown by Mr. Anton (Mayor of Malang) and others deserves appreciation because it is quite innovative and able to utilize technology.
Therefore, regional autonomy which is intertwined with the direct election of regional heads by the people has its own advantages, one of which is the determination of policies which are of a bottom up or policies that originate from the aspirations of the people as an effect of direct regional elections.
In addition, there must be closeness between the people and the leaders, because the people themselves choose their leaders. "All of that will have a positive impact on regional development that can continue to be accelerated," he concluded. (say/yon)
