Klojen, MC – To increase the amount of fish consumption for Malang City residents, the Malang City Government through the Malang City Agriculture Service (Disperta) inaugurated the Fish Supermarket on Jl. Sarangan, Malang City, Friday (20/5).

This supermarket sells various fresh fish such as tuna, shrimp, grouper, salmon, and others. In addition, there are also various processed foods made from fish such as fish floss and fish chips.

According to Malang Mayor H. Moch. Anton, this fish supermarket is the first and only one in Indonesia, so it is expected to be an example and be followed by other districts or cities.

"With this supermarket, it is hoped that the level of fish consumption in the community will increase, so that a community and young generation with high potential will be formed," he explained.

Added by the man who is familiarly called Abah Anton, in addition to increasing fish consumption by residents, the existence of this supermarket will also help boost the economy of the community, especially for fish farmers. "They will find it easy to sell their farmed fish so that their economy will also improve," he added.

The same thing was also conveyed by the Head of the Malang City Disperta, Ir. Hadi Santoso who also emphasized that in Malang City there are currently 280 fish farmers. With the existence of this supermarket, he said, they will become beg for supermarkets.

"Thus, from the marketing or sales side, fish farmers will no longer have difficulties, because the level of demand for fish in supermarkets is quite large," he explained.

For the level of fish consumption per capita per year, according to the man who is familiarly called Soni, in Malang City for 2015 it was around 25,6 kilograms, and for 2016 it is targeted to be even higher, namely at 27 kilograms. "This program will be realized well along with the increasing productivity of fish farmers today," he continued. (say/yon)
