Lowokwaru, MC – While delivering his scientific oration in front of thousands of graduates of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Saturday (28/5), the Chief of Police General Badrodin Haiti conveyed various things about the benefits and dangers of cyberspace. According to him, the benefits and dangers caused by the progress of information technology today are quite balanced.

The Chief of Police added that cyberspace provides many conveniences in various things, such as buying and selling, the need for various information, and so on. However, on the other hand, if misused, then the user could have problems with the law. For example, transaction fraud by creating fake accounts and so on.
"In connection with the increasing level of cybercrime which has caused a lot of harm to society and this institution, the government will immediately form a defense cyber. Thus, various problems that have been and will occur, can be immediately anticipated well," he explained.
The Chief of Police added that among the younger generation, cyberspace provides freedom that is virtually limitless when they actualize themselves. In the end, all of that can blur a person's identity and make someone feel as if they no longer have personal responsibility because they feel free to express themselves.
He further said, even deviant or inconsistent ideologies with Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution are easily spread through cyberspace, where it can also endanger the mental and morals of the younger generation. "Therefore, today's young generation must really have an extra filter to ward off various crimes, especially through cyberspace," he explained.
"Handling of cybercrime requires computers and forensic systems and in a measured way with strong legal protection. The law must move progressively and its handling must be fast, structured, and massive. In addition, the competence of our law enforcement officers must continue to be improved to minimize and prosecute perpetrators of cybercrime," he concluded. (say/yon)
