Baznas Malang City Provides Education in Donating

Klojen, MC – Until May 2016, the receipt of alms (sadaqah) in the National Zakat Agency (Baznas) of Malang City amounted to Rp 1,1 billion. The amount was obtained from alms of around 5.000 civil servants (PNS) in the Malang City Government. Of that amount, 75 percent was used for productive sectors and 25 percent for consumption, such as for the poor and elderly widows.

The treasurer of Baznas Malang City, Faizah Millati, carefully calculates the amount of alms donations in her office.

The amount of alms from civil servants is obtained from the percentage of the civil servants' income allowance with varying amounts, depending on the amount of allowance from each employee. Not all Malang City Government employees submit their alms to Baznas Malang City, because some distribute it elsewhere.

At least that is what was conveyed by the Treasurer of Baznas Malang City, Faizah Millati, Wednesday (29/6). According to her, the acquisition of this alms donation could actually be even greater if all Malang City Government civil servants were willing to channel it through Baznas. In addition, if there is an appeal or circular from the Mayor of Malang so that from the allowances and salaries received by Malang City Government civil servants, the alms donation is channeled to Baznas Malang City, then that would be even better.

"The deduction of alms for civil servants, in addition to being based on rank and class, is also based on an agreement from the donor or the civil servant concerned. And the agreement is in written form, so it is clear how much alms will be disbursed. However, that is not a problem, because alms are not forced or are usually called as much as you wish," added the woman in the hijab.

For its distribution, Faizah continued, in the form of soft loans to UMKM (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises_ed) actors, of which up to now there have been 1.800 business actors who have received loans and become fostered by Baznas Malang City. the amount of this loan also varies, starting from IDR 500 thousand to IDR 5 million.

"Business actors can pay off or return their loans according to their ability every month. We also suggest giving alms from the loan according to sincerity," he added.

With that system, Faizah explained, Baznas does not merely provide soft loans, but also provides education in giving alms. "In that way, business actors who are called mustahik, can later become muzaki, or can help others after they receive help or are helped," he concluded. (say/yon)
