Klojen, MC – The success of Malang City athletes in the 2016th West Java National Sports Week (PON) has added to the spirit of the Malang City Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) and the Malang City Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) in preparing athletes to appear in the 1th Regional Student Sports Week (POPDA) 6 on 2016-XNUMX November XNUMX.

Carrying 158 athletes, in POPDA XI 2016 held in Jember, Malang City is optimistic that it can win 19 gold medals. This optimism was clearly seen during the Release of the POPDA XI Malang City Contingent in 2016 which was released by the Deputy Mayor of Malang Drs. Sutiaji in the Meeting Room of Malang City Hall, Thursday (20/10).
Head of Dispora Malang City Drs. Nuzul Nurcahyono said that currently the POPDA team of Malang City is very ready to appear in Jember. With good preparation done during the last two months, Malang City is optimistic to achieve success.
"Two years ago in POPDA Gresik, Malang City was ranked third after Gresik Regency and defending champion Surabaya. In Jember we hope to at least achieve third place," he said, Thursday (20/10).
Nuzul added, of the 14 sports branches (cabor) competed, Malang City sent 13 sports branches. The thirteen sports branches are athletics, basketball, badminton, wrestling, karate, archery, pencak silat, gymnastics, soccer, sepak takraw, table tennis and tennis. One sport branch that did not qualify was volleyball.
Malang City athletes selected in POPDA XI are students from junior high schools, MTs, SMA, and SMK throughout Malang City. They successfully passed the selection of the training camp held for two months consisting of 84 male athletes and 74 female athletes.
Nuzul is optimistic that Malang City athletes can meet the targets imposed because they have gone through a selection process with a very strict promotion and degradation system involving 36 coaches from sports branches and sports teachers.
Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor of Malang Drs. Sutiaji expressed his appreciation for the success of 13 sports branches of Malang City that passed the qualifying round so they could appear in Jember. He hopes that the Malang City contingent can bring the good name of Malang City to be the best.
"This success cannot be separated from the good cooperation of many parties in Malang City. Hopefully in Jember the POPDA contingent of Malang City can meet the target, hopefully it can exceed it," Sutiaji hoped.
Through the cultivation carried out by KONI in collaboration with the Malang City Education Office and the Ministry of Religion through the coordination of their respective sectors, it is hoped that intelligent superior seeds will emerge.
