Malang Mayor H. Moch. Anton, Malang City Regional Secretary and Head of SKPD in Malang City Government were present at this activity.

Abah Anton, as the Mayor of Malang is familiarly called, stated that with the increasingly rapid development and progress of construction, the risk of fire disasters is also increasing.

The increasingly dense population, the construction of office buildings, residential areas, and increasingly developing industries can cause vulnerabilities and if a fire occurs, it will have a major impact.

The impacts referred to include, among others, the increasing level of difficulty in fire extinguishing and rescue efforts, due to the complexity of construction and building materials, the increasing potential for the spread of fire and smoke, the increasing need for facilities or equipment and the availability of water sources for extinguishing, as well as the increasing need for techniques, facilities and management for rescuing victims.

"Therefore, in order to minimize fires and overcome fire incidents in buildings, buildings must be protected by providing fire protection infrastructure and facilities such as a building fire alarm system which is a tool to provide early warning to building occupants or designated officers about the occurrence or indication of a fire in a part of the building," explained Abah Anton.

With early warning, it will enable residents/officers to take further action to extinguish the fire or, if possible, carry out evacuation of lives and property.

In addition, it is also necessary to have alertness and readiness from building managers and occupants as well as personnel who have expertise in anticipating and dealing with fire problems and know how to operate existing fire protection facilities and infrastructure.

"Through this activity, I hope that it can motivate all elements of society to have awareness and vigilance of fire disasters, as well as to gain knowledge on how to anticipate fire disasters," he added. (say/yon)
