Kedungkandang, MC – The opening of the 17 U-2016 National Indoor Volleyball Club Championship was held at the Ken Arok Sports Arena (GOR), Wednesday (30/11).
The National Championship was officially opened by the Deputy Mayor of Malang, Drs. Sutiaji, accompanied by the Chairman of the Indonesian Volleyball Association (PBVSI) of Malang City, Edy Wahyono.
In his speech, Sutiaji expressed his gratitude to the veterans, volleyball athletes, and KONI Malang City who had initiated the implementation of this national championship. "The fighting spirit of the veterans to revive the world of volleyball is very high and we should appreciate it," he said.
The main purpose of this activity will create a domino effect in all fields, not only in the business world such as culinary that will emerge during this activity that can improve the socio-economic of the surrounding community. In addition, Malang City will also be increasingly known, both nationally and internationally.
"We hope that the community will be able to grasp and revive volleyball as a community sport that is relatively cheap after football," he added.
Meanwhile, Edy Wahyono said that PBVSI will never tire of looking for volleyball athlete seeds through existing clubs and from schools. "Later we will develop them so that our target in the 2019 Porprov will be more prepared in the volleyball sport," he explained.
"Hopefully, the sport of volleyball can rise again like in the 80s. In addition, it is hoped that Malang City will also become a barometer for this sport," he concluded. (say/yon)
