20th Anniversary, ICMA Encourages Accountants to Become Agents of Change

In line with this, in the framework of the 20th anniversary of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants (ICMA) Australia in collaboration with the ICMA Indonesia-Surabaya Chapter will hold an International Management Accounting Symposium with the theme 'The Frontiers of Accounting', Monday (5/12) with host The main event is Malang State University. This activity will be a forum for practitioners and academics to improve understanding in the field of Strategic Management Accounting.

The Chair of the Symposium Committee, Dr. Basuki, M.Com (Hons), Ph.D, Ak,CA, CMA explained that ICMA Australia is an institution that produces professional management accountants, which in 2016 will be exactly 20 years old.

“As an international institution, ICMA Australia networks with alumni who hold certification. Certified Management Accountant (CMA) in Indonesia which is accommodated in the ICMA Indonesia organization which oversees the Surabaya Chapter," said Basuki, Sunday (04/12).

According to Basuki, the symposium activity is also a form of academic interaction with the world of practice, ICMA Indonesia, especially the Surabaya Chapter, invites campuses and companies or other organizations to attend this prestigious event. Specifically, Basuki hopes that accountants as part of achieving the organization's vision and mission play an important role in providing various information in making business decisions.

"The role of accountants is expected to not only be passive as information providers, but also active as agents of change that provide added value to the organization," he said.

Symposium Event Organizer (EO), Dr. Puji Handayati added, there are two objectives of this activity. First, as a forum for academic visits for practitioners and academics in understanding various important and cutting-edge concepts in the field of strategic management accounting. And second, to establish networks between campuses as organizing partners that improve credentials with cooperation between campuses and ICMA Indonesia and ICMA Australia.

"The target of the symposium activity is lecturers, practitioners, students on an international scale which will be attended by 1.500 participants," he said.

The activity which was held at the Graha Cakrawala Building, State University of Malang was the result of collaboration between ICMA Australia, ICMA Indonesia Chapter Surabaya, State University of Malang as the host, and supported by PTN/PTS in Indonesia as co-host including Airlangga University Surabaya, Brawijaya University, Jember State University, Surabaya State University, Malang State Polytechnic, Perbanas College of Economics, Ciputra University, Widyagama University Malang, Widyagama Lumajang College of Economics, Islamic University of Malang, ASIA College of Economics, Yudharta University Pasuruan, PGRI Dewantara College of Economics Jombang, Muhammadiyah University of Jember, Widya Manggala College of Economics Semarang, Surabaya University, Merdeka University Malang, STIE University Malang Kucecwara, Wisnu Wardhana University, State Islamic University of Malang.

The symposium presents keynote speaker The Deputy Governor of East Java, Saifullah Yusuf, will present competent international and national speakers to discuss accounting issues, including President of ICMA Australia Prof. Brendan O'Connell, lecturer from Airlangga University Prof. Dr. Bambang Tjahyadi, MBA, CMA, Head of P2PK Ministry of Finance Indonesia Mr. Langgeng Subur, SE, Ak, MBA, CA, Chief Executive Officer ICMA Australia Prof. Janek Ratnatunga, Director of Human Capital & Legal PT. Semen Indonesia Tbk, Mr. Ahyanizzaman, SE, MM, CA, CMA.

In addition to this international symposium, ICMA Australia also provides Lifetime Achievement Award to Prof. Drs. H. Muhammad Nasir, M.Si, Ak, Ph.D (Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia). Hopefully ICMA will become a professional and competent organization. (say/yon)
