Starfruit, MC – Glintung, which used to be known as a slum and often flooded, has now transformed into a green and creative village. If in the past many of its residents were trapped by loan sharks, now Glintung residents have their own cooperative that can improve the welfare of its residents. That was what was expressed by the Head of RW 23, Bambang Irianto, Monday (5/12).

Bambang together with the Mayor of Malang H. Moch. Anton will go to Guangzhou, China, said he will present the metamorphosis of Glintung Village. Starting from Glintung which used to be a village in the middle of the city but was slum until Glintung now which has changed into a healthy village, a green village that is nominated in the top 15 Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation.
"The Water Saving Movement (Gemar) that we are doing has proven to be effective in changing Glintung. We want this movement to not only be an example in Indonesia, but also an inspiration to the world," Bambang hoped, Monday (5/12).
He revealed that facing participants from big countries such as Norway, South Korea, Mexico, Ireland, Israel, and other countries did not make him afraid at all. Glintung's progress from zero to becoming a neat and beautiful village is Glintung's strength to be able to compete at the world level.
Bambang admitted that Glintung Village really started changing from zero. Utilizing existing goods and scrap and utilizing every inch of available land, Glintung gradually began to reforest.
The limited land in the Glintung area is overcome by planting on walls, on roof tiles, and every empty space. Before changing Glintung to what it is today, Bambang admitted that the main thing that must be done is how to change the way people think first so that they can be invited to progress. (cah/yon)
