Starfruit, MC – The Malang City Food Security Office held a Workshop on Optimizing Resource Potential in Developing Food and Nutrition Security at the Akasia Ballroom, Hotel Savana Malang, Wednesday (14/12).

The event, which was opened by the Regional Secretary of Malang City, Dr. Idrus Achmad, M.Si, was attended by 200 participants from the sub-districts and villages in the Community Empowerment sector, TP PKK Malang City, Women's Organization of Malang City and related SKPDs.
In this activity, two speakers were presented, namely Lecturer of the Faculty of Agriculture, Brawijaya University, Dr. Ir. Setyono Yudo Tyasmoro, MS who delivered the material on Availability and Food in Malang City, and Head of the East Java Food and Nutrition Team Andriyanto, SH, M.Hum who delivered the material on Implementation of Community Nutrition Handling Strategies and Programs in Malang City.
In her speech, the Head of the Malang City Food Security Office, Sri Winarni, SH, MM said that food is a basic human need. Food provision is not only the responsibility of the government, but requires support and participation from the community. The current condition is the decreasing agricultural land which affects the amount of food commodity production.
"Therefore, efforts and strategies are needed to meet the food needs of the community by optimizing all potential resources available in Malang City, be it land for agriculture, land, human resources and other food resources for the utilization of food and nutrition security," explained Sri Winarni.
Meanwhile, the Regional Secretary of Malang City, Dr. Idrus Achmad, M,Si said that food security has a strategic role in national development, at least in three aspects, namely access to adequate food and nutrition is the most basic human right, food has an important role in the formation of quality human resources, and food security is one of the main pillars in supporting sustainable economic and national resilience.
Idrus added that the food security improvement program is directed to be able to meet the food needs of the community in the country from national food production. The program is also directed at the independence of the community/farmers based on local resources which are operationally carried out through a food production improvement program, maintaining the availability of sufficient and diverse, safe, and halal food in each region, and anticipating food insecurity.
"Therefore, a strategy is needed to increase food and nutrition security, by optimizing and empowering agricultural land, home yards and idle lands, strengthening food affordability so that food access is smooth to families, accelerating food diversification in the community based on local foods other than rice," said Idrus.
"There needs to be joint action by all components of society, such as the PKK movement team, Dharma Wanita Persatuan and other community organizations, as well as support from the... stake holders food as a driver in motivating the entire community to meet food availability," he added. (say/yon)
