Bank Indonesia Officially Launches New Rupiah Currency 2016 Issue

Klojen, MC – The government through Bank Indonesia (BI) has finally officially introduced the latest rupiah denominations of 2016 emissions to the public. The launch of the latest denominations of money was carried out in a live streaming witnessed directly by 45 BI representative offices throughout Indonesia including the Malang Regional Office.

Head of BI Malang Regional Office, Dudi Herawadi, symbolically handed over examples and specifications of the new money to representatives of Malang City Government civil servants.

The inauguration of the new denomination of money at the BI Malang Regional Office, Monday (19/12) was held at the Bank Indonesia Multipurpose Room, Jl. Merdeka and was attended by banking and local government elements including the Malang City Market Service.

A total of 11 denominations of banknotes and coins were officially launched by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. live streaming. 12 national heroes plus natural scenery and Indonesian dances are the images on the money in this denomination.

In the new banknotes, the image of Indonesian Proclaimers Soekarno and Hatta is on the Rp100.000 note. The hero Djuanda Kartawidjaja is on the Rp50.000 note, while the Rp20.000 note features the image of the hero Ratulangi. 

Hero Frans Kaisiepo adorns the Rp 10.000 note, the Rp 5.000 note has a picture of hero Idham Chalid and the picture of Mohammad Hoesni Thamrin adorns the Rp 2.000 note. Furthermore, the Rp 1.000 note has a picture of hero Tjut Meutia.

For metal notes, I Gusti Ketut Pudja is on the Rp1.000 note, TB Simatupang is on the Rp500 metal note, while Tjipto Mangunkusumo is on the Rp200 note, and the image of Herman Johannes is on the Rp100 note.

In his remarks, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the rupiah notes decorated with images of heroes, natural scenery and Indonesian dances are a form of appreciation for national heroes and a form of love for Indonesian culture.

"Therefore, I invite all Indonesian people to love the rupiah and always use it in domestic transactions. In addition, every rupiah is proof of our economic independence in the midst of the world economy," said President Jokowi.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also emphasized the issue of counterfeiting, where currently security technology is being strengthened and given more attention, because the rupiah is the pride of the Indonesian people.

Head of BI Malang Regional Office, Dudi Herawadi, on this occasion said, although the new denominations have been launched, the old rupiah denominations are still valid as legal tender. For people who want to enjoy the new denominations, they can exchange them at BI starting yesterday. (say/yon)
