ProFauna Malang Educates Animal Conservation to Students

Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – In order to commemorate Indonesian Primate Day which is celebrated every January 30, an independent, non-profit organization with an international network working in the field of forest and wildlife protection, ProFauna (Protection of Forest & Fauna) Malang held socialization and education about rare and protected animals for students at SDN Karang Besuki 1 Malang, Thursday (02/02).

ProFauna Malang members provide education to students on the importance of preserving rare and protected animals.

Primates are one of the rare and protected animals whose population continues to decline. Data collected by ProFauna, in 2015 in Kalimantan there were around 40 thousand primates, and in 2016 in Sumatra there were 14 thousand. Until now there is still no complete data, but it is certain that the number is decreasing.

This population decline is caused by poaching, primate trade, shrinking primate habitats, and even demand from certain groups who want to consume primate meat. This is certainly very concerning and must be stopped immediately.

At least those are some of the things conveyed by one of ProFauna's campaigners, Swasti Pramudya Mukti to the students. He added that education for students and the general public will continue to be carried out, so that it can suppress the increasing extinction of primates.

"Education from an early age for students is very important, and it is hoped that they will understand the importance of loving, caring for and having a sense of concern for primates. We also hope that the knowledge they receive can be passed on to others," added the woman in the hijab.

If not us as the younger generation, who else will care about various rare and protected animals, especially these primates. "We also hope that all parties will care and report to the authorities if they find illegal hunting or trade of these rare animals," Swasti appealed. (say/yon)
