Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – Malang Mayor H. Moch. Anton accompanied by the Head of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (DPUPR) of Malang City Ir. Hadi Santoso conducted a surprise inspection (sidak) to flood-prone locations and blocked drains in several areas of Malang City, Monday (27/02).
At that time, several officers from the Malang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and Malang City Public Works and Public Housing Agency (DPUPR) immediately went down to normalize and clean the clogged gutters.
The areas include the Kedawung area, Jl. Sebuku and Jl. Sulfat. Several times during heavy rain, several areas are suspected of always experiencing momentary flooding. "Floods that often occur in Malang City are usually in the form of puddles that quickly subside within an hour. This is caused by water spilling from existing gutters or rivers," explained the man who is familiarly called Abah Anton.
"As in Jl. Sulfat, the puddles that appear are caused by the blockage of the existing culverts. Therefore, tomorrow we will immediately bring in heavy equipment to normalize the existing culverts," said Abah Anton.
"In the future, we will continue to enlarge the gutters that have shrunk due to the personal interests of the community. We ask for public awareness not to throw garbage in the water channels so as not to trigger flooding," he said. (say/yon)
