Kedungkandang (malangkota.go.id) – The Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, appreciates the development of the Desaku Menanti Village which is located in Baran Hamlet, Tlogowaru Village, Kedungkandang District, Malang City.

The Desaku Menanti program is one of the efforts of the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs to eradicate poverty in Indonesia. In Malang City itself, the realization of this program was carried out in March 2016 in the form of building 40 houses for former vagrants and beggars (gepeng).
He revealed while visiting Kampung Desaku Menanti accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Malang Drs. Sutiaji, the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs often receives questions, some of which are from foreign journalists, about handling beggars. Especially approaching the month of Ramadan, the problem of beggars is always a separate problem. Not only in Malang, but also in various regions in Indonesia.
"We are looking for a format on how to effectively handle vagrants and beggars, one of which is what is being done in Kampung Menanti," explained Minister Khofifah, Sunday (12/3).
Moreover, currently Kampung Desaku Menanti has become a new tourist destination in Malang City with the presence of the 100 Mask Tourism Village. The presence of this tourism village is expected to make local residents more independent because the various creative products produced can be marketed well.
In the future, this program will continue to be developed along with the increasing role of volunteers, BUMN, BUMD, the community and also the local government. In this way, it is hoped that the fostered community can be independent as soon as possible, and this program is successful and there are no more beggars roaming the streets. (cah/yon)
