Head of BNN RI Invites TNI-Polri to Fight Drugs

Malang (malangkota.go.id) – Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia, Commissioner General of Police Budi Waseso, said that Indonesia is currently still under great threat from the dangers of drugs. Until the end of 2016, drug users in Indonesia were no less than six million people. That number increased by 13 percent compared to 2015.

This was conveyed by the man who is often called Buwas during a working visit to Divif 2 Kostrad Singosari, Friday (21/4). The working visit entitled Face to Face Meeting of the Head of the Republic of Indonesia BNN with the TNI and Polri throughout Malang Raya in the context of synergy of the Prevention, Eradication, Abuse and Illicit Distribution of Drugs (P4GN) program was attended by 1.300 TNI-Polri in Malang Raya.

Commissioner General Budi Waseso said that every day at least 50 people die due to drugs. According to him, this incident should not have happened if all elements of this nation synergized in suppressing and eradicating drug abuse. "Therefore, we invite the ranks of the TNI and Polri to play a bigger role in suppressing and eradicating the circulation and use of various illicit goods," he said.

"The initial step and arguably easy to do is to start from the family and the surrounding environment. Every family should have a strong filter for their children not to try various types of drugs. Actually, prevention is relatively easier than treating or eradicating," he added.

He further said that the TNI with its Babinsa can come down and convey to the public about the dangers of drugs. While the Polri from the legal side can also conduct socialization and take action. "The war on drugs is much more dangerous than fighting using firearms, because the dangers of drugs can kill anyone without discrimination and age," explained the man who once served as the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police.

Currently, Komjen Budi Waseso said there are around 800 types of drugs, and of that number, 60 types have entered and are circulating in Indonesia. The rest is not impossible to enter even more, because Indonesia is a fertile market for drug trafficking. "Of the 60 types, 43 types have been identified and are included in the health law. The rest, 17 types have not been revealed and are still kept secret, because the effects are very large and can add to the problems in this country even greater," he concluded. (say/yon)
