Jakarta - There is a zebra breaking down the door, Lapo Bra is indeed of high quality. That is a verse of the pantun uttered by Refly Harun, one of the judges of the Top 99 Public Service Innovations in 2017 when closing the judging and assessment of public service innovations from the Public Library and Regional Archives Service of Malang City which was presented directly by the Mayor of Malang H. Moch. Anton.

The event, which was held in the Sriwijaya Room of the Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) of the Republic of Indonesia, Wednesday (3/5), was a competition event for ministerial institutions, state institutions, BUMN, BUMD, provincial governments and city/district governments to demonstrate public service innovations.
In front of three judges, consisting of JB Kristiadi, Refly Harun and Wawan Sobari, the Mayor of Malang, who is familiarly called Abah Anton by the residents of Malang City, said that the Braille Corner Service (Lapo Bra) was presented as a step to capture... spirit of equality (equality) for all citizens in obtaining their rights in the fields of literacy and education.
"There should be no obstacles or barriers for residents to progress, including from our brothers and sisters with disabilities, the blind and other disabilities, to obtain library services. Lapo Bra is here for that," he explained.
Responding to Abah Anton's presentation, JB Kristiadi in his comments felt interested in this innovation. The judges also directly communicated and tested the benefits of Lapo Bra to a blind person who was present in the assessment forum.
There is a uniqueness of Lapo Bra that attracts attention, namely pioneer (pioneer) of innovation, the first public library service for the blind, then the second because it is easy and complete with a braille collection of 2.000 books, based on information technology and talking book, and the third is comprehensive and inclusive, competent human resources, disabled-friendly infrastructure, and free shuttle services.
Based on 2016 data, in Malang City, the number of blind people with disabilities was recorded at 1.138 people or 0.12% of the total population of Malang City.
The Malang City Government itself, as conveyed by Abah Anton, since 2015-2016 has disbursed a special budget for the development of disability groups amounting to IDR 3 billion, and the arrangement of disability-friendly infrastructure amounting to IDR 71 billion. Specifically for the construction of Lapo Bra itself, it reached IDR 3 billion. (say/yon)
