Elderly in Malang City Receive Food Package Assistance

Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government through the Malang City Social Service distributes social assistance to fulfill basic needs for neglected or non-potential elderly people. This assistance was handed over directly by the Mayor of Malang H. Moch. Anton in the Lowokwaru District Hall, Malang City, Tuesday (30/5).

The emotional atmosphere was evident during the handover of this aid. As seen when grandmother Ngatemi received the aid handed over by the Mayor of Malang, the woman who now lives alone without family looked teary-eyed and moved.

Grandma Ngatemi said she could not hold back her tears when she received the aid handed over by the Mayor of Malang, who is familiarly called Abah Anton by his residents. She also did not expect that Abah Anton would be present at the distribution of basic necessities this time.

"Why are you so nice, Dad? Anton (read: very kind Abah Anton_red), I really like Dino iki iso direct handshake (read: I didn't expect to be able to shake hands today. I hope Abah Anton is given safety and health without lacking anything," said Nenek Ngatemi, moved, Tuesday (30/5).

Receiving basic food packages in the form of rice, eggs, and cooking oil like this for this grandmother who sells herbal medicine every day is an extraordinary pleasure and blessing.

"During fasting I don't work anymore, because no one buys herbal medicine during the day. To sell in the afternoon the time is too short. So yes, for a whole month during fasting I don't get any income," he explained.

Meanwhile, Abah Anton said that providing assistance like this is very positive, especially during the month of Ramadan. "The elderly who are categorized as neglected people can no longer be productive so they are very deserving of assistance. I advise the Social Service to always pay attention to the elderly in the five sub-districts in Malang City," he said.

Abah Anton also advised the village heads who were present to be more detailed in recording the elderly in their areas to avoid elderly people who actually need help but are not registered. "I hope that activities like this are not done just once, but continue to be sustainable so that we can work together to improve the welfare of the elderly," concluded Abah Anton. (cah/yon)
