International Anti-Narcotics Day (HANI) 2017

International Anti-Narcotics Day (HANI), which is commemorated every June 26, is a form of global concern regarding the abuse and illicit trafficking of narcotics and narcotic precursors which have a negative impact on health, socio-economic development, as well as world security and peace.

Drug abuse causes around 190.000 people in the world to die in vain every year. Drugs can also actually trigger other crimes, such as theft, rape, and murder. Meanwhile, the trade and illicit distribution of drugs is suspected of being one of the sources of income to support terrorist operations.

This very worrying situation has become a very urgent world problem that must be resolved together immediately. In Indonesia, President Joko Widodo has stated that Indonesia is in a state of Drug Emergency. This statement is not just a slogan. It is real that Indonesia is currently not just a transit point, but has become the largest drug market in Asia.

Moreover, drug abuse in Indonesia has affected almost all levels of society, both in terms of age, education, socio-economic strata, profession and job level, and even the distribution of narcotics has spread evenly throughout Indonesia.

As a form of Emergency Response to Drugs, BNN as an institution that is prioritized in handling narcotics and narcotics precursor problems in Indonesia, in 2016 has implemented programs for the Prevention and Eradication of Narcotics Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN) in order to reduce the prevalence of narcotics abuse, especially among groups of children, teenagers, students, and college students who are the next generation of the nation.

In accordance with the world theme in the commemoration of HANI in 2017, namely "LISTEN FIRST: Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe - Listening to the conscience of children and the younger generation is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe from drug abuse", efforts to prevent and protect against the dangers of drug abuse must be a comprehensive movement, both globally, regionally, and nationally.

Children and adolescents are groups that play an important role in determining the fate of the nation and state in the future. Therefore, the state is obliged to create a good environment for their growth and development. Protecting them from the threat of the dangers of drugs is not an easy job and cannot be done sectorally. The state and society must work together, shoulder to shoulder, to realize the power of deterrence, the power of rejection, and the power of prevention against drug abuse among the younger generation, so that they are able to reject drugs and are ready to become a strong generation and ready to accept the baton of leadership in this country.

In realizing an Indonesian society free from the abuse and illicit trafficking of narcotics and narcotic precursors, full support and attention is needed from all government institutions, both ministerial and non-ministerial, as well as all elements of society.

Therefore, through the peak momentum of HANI 2017 commemoration, it is expected to strengthen action and cooperation at all levels to build national awareness to live healthy and clean from the abuse and illicit trafficking of narcotics in the motherland, Indonesia. #HANI2017
