Malang City is Certain to Win the Adipura Kencana and Adiwiyata Mandiri Awards

Malang – Another proud achievement was achieved by Malang City. The environmental award, Adipura Kencana, was again won by the city known as the City of Education.

The certainty regarding the Adipura Kencana award came directly from the Directorate General of Waste Management, Hazardous and Toxic Materials of the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry through an invitation letter regarding the presentation of the Adipura Award addressed to the Mayor of Malang.

In this letter, it is stated that the award ceremony will be held directly by President Joko Widodo on Wednesday (2/8) at Plaza Ir. Soedjono Soerjo Manggala Wanabakti, Jakarta.

Malang City received the Adipura Kencana award for the large city category. The Adipura Kencana award was also won by Surabaya City and Tangerang City for the metropolitan city category, as well as Kudus City and Jombang City which won the Adipura Kencana Award for the medium city category.

In addition to Adipura Kencana, Malang City also once again made achievements through SMP Negeri 15, SMA Negeri 2 and SMA Negeri 7 Malang which received the Adiwiyata Mandiri award.

Malang Mayor H. Moch. Anton admitted that he was very proud of this highest environmental award. According to him, this Adipura Kencana achievement can be achieved because of the cooperation and togetherness of all components and elements of society. "Of course, this Adipura Kencana Cup is a proud achievement that we must maintain," said Abah Anton, as the Mayor of Malang is familiarly called, Wednesday (26/7).

Various innovations in the environmental sector continue to be encouraged by the Malang City Government, such as the Malang Waste Bank (BSM), Road Sweeper, Thematic Trash Bins, 3R Cadres, development of integrated waste processing, water saving movements, and revitalization of city parks and forests.

Abah Anton explained that the various programs are very effective in reducing the amount of waste. It is recorded that the percentage of increasing waste reduction from year to year shows a positive graph, namely 26 percent in 2014, then increased to 26,5 percent in 2015, and in 2017 it has increased to 27,5 percent. It is targeted that in 2017, waste reduction will increase to 28 percent.

In addition, the waste reduction program through the Malang Waste Bank (BSM) is also very effective in addition to reducing waste and also getting financial benefits for the community. "We hope that with these various innovations, the percentage of waste in Malang City will be reduced," he said. (say/yon)
