Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – It should be remembered that the purpose of cooperatives is to improve the welfare of members and not just to pursue profits. One of these things was expressed by the Chairman of the Indonesian Cooperative Council (Dekopin) of Malang City, Dr. Herman Suryo Kumolo, SH, MS in the Cooperative Institutional Development Workshop held by the Malang City Cooperative and Micro Business Service at the Montana Hotel, Tuesday (5/9).
Herman said that if the purpose of forming a cooperative is only to pursue profit, the cooperative will lose its spirit. According to him, the spirit of the cooperative is how cooperative members can prosper.
"From this reality, cooperatives should have the same vision, not just be a collection of people," explained Herman, Tuesday (5/9).
Cooperatives, said Herman, are not just groups of people, but rather groups of people who have the same problems and have the same goals to overcome difficulties.
"Like the cooperative at Manchester United, it was initially built by people who had the same problem because they lived far from the city," said Herman.
From that similarity, they finally worked together to solve the problems they were facing. So that members can feel the benefits of the existence of cooperatives which are very profitable, namely welfare. "Cooperatives should not only pursue profit. More important is how to serve," explained Herman.
In addition to the spirit of cooperatives that must be able to improve the welfare of its members, on this occasion Herman also discussed cooperatives in Indonesia which, although in terms of numbers continue to grow, their existence is still far from being the mainstay of the economy.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Cooperatives and Micro Business Service of Malang City, Dra. Tri Widyani P., M.Si in her speech said that the Malang City Government is very serious about building and advancing cooperatives. That is why various activities continue to be carried out, including this time by holding a workshop.
"We hope that this activity will further foster the spirit of cooperatives in Malang City by restoring the spirit of the cooperative movement to improve the welfare of members," said Yani, Tri Widyani's nickname. (cah/yon)
