Malang City has successfully won two prestigious awards at once, namely as the 'Tourism Potential City' and the 'Best City' version of the IAA. The awards given to Malang City were received directly by the Mayor of Malang, H. Moch. Anton.
For this award, the Mayor of Malang, who is familiarly called Abah Anton, said that this achievement was the result of joint work between all elements, both in the government, the community and related stakeholders. "We are very grateful for this award received by the City of Malang," said Abah Anton.
Regarding Malang City which received awards in the categories of Potential Tourism City and Best City, Abah Anton explained that this is in line with the thematic village development program that is currently being promoted.
The presence of Colorful Village, Tridi Village, Glintung Go Green Village (3G), White Village and dozens of other thematic villages have been quite successful in attracting tourists, both from within the country and abroad, to come and visit Malang City.
This does not include the efforts of the Malang City Government in the last few years to beautify the face of the city by building parks and various other public spaces.
"With the existence of thematic villages and increasingly beautiful and pretty cities, this is able to attract tourists to visit Malang City. This is very positive, because in addition to increasing tourism, it also increases the economy of residents in thematic villages," explained Abah Anton.
The friendly man hopes that this achievement will be a spur for all regional apparatus organizations (OPD) within the Malang City Government to continue to give their best in carrying out their duties and continue to achieve achievements.
"Of course this is a spur for our spirit in Malang City Government in carrying out development. Therefore we will continue to maintain and strive to maintain, and continue to provide the best to the community," he added again.
IAA is an annual award event for provincial and special region governments and local governments (regencies/cities). In its third year of implementation in 2017, there are 26 award categories given to provincial, city and district governments that are considered capable of maintaining the attractiveness and distribution of economic development.
The award winners were assessed based on two indicators, namely the contribution of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) to the provincial GRDP of above 20 percent, and the second indicator, namely GRDP growth that is greater than the average corridor growth or GRDP per capita greater than the average GDPR per capita corridor.
Director General of Population and Civil Registration of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Zudan Arif Fakhrullah, in his remarks said that Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo greatly appreciated the existence of the IAA, because it is directly related to the government ecosystem.
"The Minister of Home Affairs advised and hoped that regional heads would continue the development program as the spirit of governance by continuing to innovate and make new breakthroughs," said Zudan.
It was also explained that in the modern era like this, society needs public services that are fast and instant, so the government must be quick to respond to these changes.
"The thinking of people in the current era is different from the thinking of people in the past. Nowadays, people want everything fast and instant," he said.
The Ministry of Home Affairs hopes that the IAA event can bring benefits to local governments to continue to spur regional development growth with the aim of improving people's welfare.
Meanwhile, Deputy for Destination Development and Tourism Industry of the Ministry of Tourism, Dadang Rizki Ratman hopes that cities/regencies that are able to win awards in the tourism sector can become examples for other regions in Indonesia.
