Deputy Mayor of Malang Attends Double Tenth Day Commemoration

Surabaya (malangkota.go.id) – Deputy Mayor of Malang Drs. Sutiaji attended the 106th Taiwan Anniversary Celebration at the JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya, Monday (9/10).

The event is also known as the commemoration Double Tenth Day This was also attended by former Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy Admiral TNI (ret.) Soeparno, Regent of Sampang Fadilah Budiono, Surakarta Aristocrat Kanjeng Raden Aryo Tumenggung (KRAT) Tejo Bagus Sunaryo, Honorary Consuls of Hungary and Austria, Honorary Consul of New Zealand, Indonesian businessmen and Taiwanese businessmen from East Java, Bali, and Central Java, totaling approximately 300 people.

The event was opened with two national anthems of two countries, Taiwan and Indonesia, by students of Surabaya Taipei School. The host of this event, Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Surabaya (TETOS), has held this event for the second time.

Director General of TETO Surabaya Jeffrey SC Hsiao said that since October 2016 to March 2017, the growth rate of trade and import exports of Taiwan and ASEAN countries was 20,33%, higher than the overall growth rate of Taiwan's trade.

"The number of tourists from ASEAN countries, in the same period who visited Taiwan also increased by 28,64% exceeding the increase in global tourists. The number of students coming to Taiwan last year increased by more than 10% to 31.531 people," said Jeffrey.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Mayor of Malang, Drs. Sutiaji, in his speech said that TETO Surabaya's visit to the Malang City Government some time ago was an opening for the realization of cooperation.

It is hoped that it can support the progress of development and social relations between Malang City and Taiwan in one spirit to build a bridge of brotherhood, so that it can improve the quality of development in the region, especially in providing the best service for the interests and welfare of the community.

"Between Taiwan and Malang City, there has actually been a close relationship, seen from the presence of Indonesian workers in Taiwan reaching 280 thousand people. 60 thousand people come from Malang City and its surroundings. And every year there are approximately four thousand people from Malang City who apply for employment visas to Taiwan. Every year there are more than 100 students from Malang who apply for study visas to continue their education in Taiwan," said Sutiaji.

There are many special moments at the Celebration Double Tenth Day 106th. Kanjeng Raden Aryo Tummenggung Tejo Bagus Sunaryo and his mother specially gave keris and batik tulis. The event ended with a cake cutting and a group photo. (say/yon)
