West Kotawaringin Regency Government Learns About UMKM Development from Malang City Government

Supriyadi said that Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have a strategic role in national economic development. Therefore, in addition to playing a role in economic growth and labor absorption, they also play a role in the distribution of development results.

"For example, the Malang City Government always carries out various tips, creativity, innovation in empowering, and increasing the production results of small industries in Malang City," explained Supriyadi.

In addition, the Malang City Government continues to move simultaneously in preparing regulatory frameworks, policies, and programs related to the development of small-scale industrial production, one of which is taking steps to assist and foster MSMEs.

The coaching, continued Supriyadi, is carried out consistently and continuously, but also increases technical efficiency, increases mastery of science and technology or innovation, mastery and implementation of new product development, which is carried out by the Malang City Cooperatives and Micro Enterprises Service.

"In Malang City, a regional economic development forum has also been formed, which plays a role in facilitating, motivating and dynamizing regional economic activities," he added.

Meanwhile, the Assistant for General Administration of the Regional Secretariat of Kotawaringin Barat Regency, Bahrudin, said that 50 percent of the population in Kotawaringin Barat Regency is from Java Island, so there are various tribes and cultures, therefore the development of the region supports each other. Meanwhile, the area of ​​West Regency is around 10.779 square meters, with a population of 243.561 people.

From an economic perspective, he said, West Kotawaringin is developing quite well, therefore the leading sectors contribute to regional development.

"For the agricultural sector, we have palm oil, for livestock we have palm oil cattle, and for the tourism sector we are developing it. So are the other sectors," he said.

Meanwhile, the purpose and objective of visiting the Malang City Government, as conveyed, is that the local government (West Kotawaringin) is very proactive in inviting employees who are approaching retirement to be invited to a comparative study so that they can increase their knowledge, insight, and experience.
